Carolyn McElfatrick's candidacy for the Minnesota House of Representatives, District 3B, has been endorsed by delegates representing the district. Meeting in a convention at Quadna Resort in Hill City on Thursday, April 1, the delegates gave McElfatrick a unanimous vote of approval. District 3B includes all of Aitkin County and.a large portion of Itasca County.
McElfatrick told the delegates that she was humbled by their support and would "represent the values that are the heart of rural Minnesota: honesty, integrity, common sense, and a strong work ethic."
McElfatrick's next stop will be a rally in St. Paul -- expected to draw thousands of Minnesota conservatives -- where she will appear on the platform with U.S. Representative Michele Bachmann and former Alaska governor Sarah Palin.
The daughter of a southern Minnesota farmer, McElfatrick was raised in Austin, Minn. She has been married to Robert for 42 years and they have two grown children. McElfatrick is a graduate of Methodist-Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester. She did her graduate work in nurse anesthesia at the Mayo Clinic, where she met her husband. She later worked as a coordinator in clinical drug trials, most recently on breast and prostate cancer prevention as sponsored by the National Cancer Institute and National Institutes of Health.
"I think we all recognize government has overstepped its bounds in many areas," McElfatrick declared. "There’s a sense that we’ve lost control -- that what was established to serve us and allow us to live our lives in relative peace and tranquility has become a threat to our well being. We get a sense that the state is headed in the wrong direction, led by people who won’t to listen to both sides of the debate. The question has been correctly raised: where is the business plan? Does our state government have any idea where it’s going?
McElfatrick vowed to "defend traditional marriage, the rights of parents in their children’s education," and said she "will be a voice for life at all stages and in all conditions." An active worker in a faith-based pro-life educational organization and a pregnancy center, McElfatrick received the endorsement of Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life (MCCL) in 2008. "Families with disabled children and senior citizens feel particularly threatened by changes they're seeing in health care," McElfatrick remarked. "They fear eventual rationing would limit their access and discriminate against them."
A member of the National Rifle Association (NRA), McElfatrick, is a strong supporter of the Second Amendment.
